Head Lice Occurence/Ocurrencia de Piojos
Head Lice Occurrence
Head lice has been reported in the 9th grade. Please examine your child's hair and scalp, focusing behind the ears and the back of the neck. Use a strong light and comb through your child's hair. Nits, or egg sacs, appear attached to the hair shaft close to the scalp and are opaque-white in color. They are the shape of small, long rice grains. Head lice are light brown and about one-eighth of an inch long. Both can be difficult to see. Please remind your child not to share hats, helmets, hooded sweatshirts and jackets, hairbrushes, etc.

Consult a head lice professional if you discover nits or lice and notify the school office immediately. Thank you for your continued vigilance and cooperation.

Traffic Alert
This is a reminder to please travel south on 5th Avenue ONLY. If all parents follow this simple traffic rule, we can ensure safety for our students
Safety Alert
One of our priorities at Ouchi High School is to keep your child safe while they are at school. In an effort to do this, we will enforce a "No In and Out" policy during the after school program. This means that students are not going to be allowed on campus once they leave school. The front gate will close at 4:00 pm. Students not inside the gate at this time, will not be allowed back on campus. Therefore, students should not go to the store after school hours. The All Stars program will provide students staying after school a snack.

Also, due to the morning and after school traffic, I encourage parents to come out and assist with morning and afternoon supervision. Parents will be able to earn volunteer hours for their support. Just come in the main office, sign in, and ask for a yellow vest. We can use the extra supervision between the hours 7:30 am and 8:00 am in addition to 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm.
Parent Volunteer
Take advantage of the time off spend some quality time with your child. Spring Break is a great opportunity to visit college campuses and/or to a museum with your child. Remember that the 40 volunteer hours are due soon. You will receive information on the total number of hours you have completed so far. If you have questions about these hours, be sure to contact, Ms. Reveles, Parent Liason.
Testing
It is important that students refresh and rejuvenate themselves while on Spring Break. When we return, we will focus on making sure that all Ouchi students are prepared for their upcoming CST and/or AP exams. You will receive information and reminders about tests in April.

LAUSD Charter Division Oversight Visit
LAUSD Charter Division evaluates all Alliance schools once a year. October 2012 was the last time our School was visited. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 is when the LAUSD Oversight Team will visit our school again.

We have much to celebrate and be proud to share. We have made much progress in our test scores since last year, in addition to an increase in parent participation.

Our staff has been preparing for the visit for at least a month in collecting relevant documents to present to the Oversight Team. The documents that we have gathered support every aspect of our school’s operation, instructional program and staffing. The final phase of the process takes place on Tuesday when the Oversight team, comprised of 2-3 educators from various backgrounds, visits our school. It is their job to validate what is written in our Charter, ask lots of questions, identify areas where things are going very well and make recommendations to guide us in being excellent in all we do.

I am asking that you send your child to school on Tuesday “Ouchi Ready.” Students should be on time, in full uniform, and ready to learn. I am also asking that you schedule any appointments for your child, after school hours. Please avoid picking your child up early from school, as it causes classroom interruptions.

If you happen to be on campus and have an opportunity to speak with a member from the LAUSD Oversight Team, please join me in making them feel welcome, Feel free to share with them a highlight of your child’s Ouchi High School experience and what a special school we have.
