Course Description

The course is designed to serve multiple purposes for students as they complete their final year of high school requirements: (1) prepare graduating seniors for the rigors of college coursework, (2) develop a variety of knowledge and skills associated with the study of English language and literature, and (3) broaden students’ awareness of the impact literature has on the development of society. Students are required to successfully complete researched-based compositions demonstrating a full grasp of the requirements of conducting research, creating an argument, supporting claims, and documenting sources. In addition, students are required to demonstrate the capacity for writing a variety of composition styles, including but not limited to analysis, argumentation, cause and effect, comparison, definition, and exemplification. Students will read, analyze, discuss, and interpret elements of literature and informational texts, providing evidence of the students’ mastery of specific skills as dictated by the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and the ERWC objectives determined by the CSU system.
